After completing the International B 10 Minute Race at Brands Hatch in a BMW M3 GT and having a comfortable win, I decided, in the interests of science, to see how I would fare in a car that was completely out of its depth performance wise in the same race.
The results were interesting. I bought myself a commonplace road car - the Peugeot 207 GTi - and took it straight from the showroom to the track. No modifications, no oil change, just the tyres permitted by the race rules.
I was expecting to be completely outclassed by the field which was made up of Mustangs, Corvettes, Lancer Evos etc. and the little 207 was hopelessly underpowered for the task. The PP limit for this race is 530 and the GTi could claim 390PP.
The M3 GT had won the race pretty easily, lapping at around 1m 45s and in the Peugeot I was able to manage 1m 56s fairly consistently and it had very little more to give. So, a full 11s a lap slower. See how this translated into the race performance and results.
